Colombian midfielder Richard Rios has been reported offered to Manchester United, with the midfielder seen as a good fit.
According to HITC, Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Palmeiras star Richard Rios. The 24-year-old Copa America star has been on the radar of many other English sides after a terrific continental tournament display, and he might fit Erik ten Hag’s midfield needs.
Richard Rios to Manchester United?
Richard Rios has put himself on the big map following his terrific performances for Colombia at the Copa America 2024. The midfielder was ever-present during their run to the Continental Final, where they ended up losing to Argentina after a tight game. Either way, those displays have paved the way for the Palmeiras star to make his move into Europe, and more specifically, England.
According to the report, he has been offered to Manchester United, while other sides are also monitoring his situation. Palmeiras wanted €21 million or so for the midfielder, which seems reasonable from a Premier League standpoint, as most clubs can afford that asking rate.
Fulham were keen and considered favourites at a point, although those links have since died down. The links to Manchester United are rather interesting, considering his combative style does suit what Erik ten Hag might want from a player in that position.
Rios is also a cheaper alternative to some of the other targets the Red Devils have been chasing, although his lack of European experience might play a part. Manchester United were linked earlier, although that story did not have any legs. The coming days might give a clearer picture of whether they are considering the 24-year-old Copa America star.
Manchester United keen on adding a midfielder
A holding midfielder, to be precise, as Ten Hag has identified as a problem position ahead of the new season. Talks for Manuel Ugarte have stalled, and ever since, Manchester United has stepped up their efforts in identifying other names like Manu Kone and Youssouf Fofana.
They are also considering Sander Berge as an alternative to Ugarte. His low cost availability and relative experience in English football are likely to play a part. Either way, Manchester United will want to quickly wrap up the signing of a defensive midfielder as soon as possible, preferably before the new season begins.
