Chelsea plotting summer move for a marquee attacker

Chelsea vs FC Noah: Preview and Prediction.

Chelsea will use the funds raised from Conor Gallagher’s sale to Atletico Madrid to sign a marquee forward this summer.

Chelsea have been linked with quite a few strikers since the start of the summer but they are yet to signal new number nine to lead their attack. According to a report from Football Insider, funds raised from Conor Gallagher’s sale will help the Blues bring in a new marquee attacker before the end of the window.

Conor Gallagher’s departure

Gallagher was an integral part of Chelsea’s first team last season but with his contract running out in 12 months, his future has been uncertain. Atletico Madrid have been pushing hard for his services and they have finally struck an agreement with the London club as well as the player.

The Blues are all set to receive around £34 million by selling their academy graduate. They will not be going in to sign a replacement with the midfield well covered and the funds raised will now help them secure a new number nine which has been their priority since the start of the window. Things didn’t go according to plan for Chelsea last season.

Chelsea want a marquee striker

While they did struggle on quite a few fronts, the absence of a proven goal scorer was the major highlight. The Blues were over-reliant on Cole Plamer in the final third of the pitch. Marc Guiu, Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson are a part of their first team setup but neither of them is considered good enough to be the leader of their attack.

Romelu Lukaku is also under contract at Chelsea but he is expected to complete a move away before the end of the window having spent the last two seasons out on loan. They want to bring in a top-quality striker who can lead the line, score goals and be the go-to man for Enzo Maresca.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is one of their priority targets. While they are in talks with the Serie A outfit, a full agreement is still a long way away. Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion has been on their wishlist since the star and they have been making moves in the recent past. While Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran was amongst their targets, the Blues have withdrawn from his race.
