There was no shortage of interest in Gallagher’s services with some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League keen.

But, Conor Gallagher has decided to make the move to Spain. While Gallagher was not really keen on leaving his childhood club, the Blues were not ready to see him run down his deal and leave for free.

Atletico Madrid have been working on a deal for some time now. Diego Simeone is keen on reinforcing his squad ahead of next season as he looks to bounce back after a disappointing campaign last time. He is a big admirer of Gallagher and wants him at his disposal.

Atletico Madrid were in talks with the Blues, and they managed to strike a deal worth €42 million for the English midfielder. While Chelsea were ready to sell, convincing Gallagher was the hard part. However, they recently managed to convince him about a move to Madrid.

He seems excited to work under Simeone and is all set to pen down a five-year deal with them. Once the player gave the green light, the clubs have also approved the move. The 24-year-old will undergo his medical as a new Atletico player today. Meanwhile, reports suggest Chelsea will look to sign a marquee striker from the funds raised from his departure.
