Chelsea and West Ham United have been linked with a move for 20-year-old Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran this summer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Chelsea and West Ham United have now abandoned their pursuit of Jhon Duran. The two London clubs were unable to finalise an agreement to sign the 20-year-old from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
Duran has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa this summer. He needs to leave the West Midlands club to play regularly and continue on his upward trajectory. It will be interesting to see if other clubs are keen on signing the Colombian international this summer.
There is no doubt that the 20-year-old is a prodigious talent for with a bright future ahead of him. He could develop into a key player for most clubs. He has the ability to succeed in the Premier League as well.
Meanwhile, Chelsea need to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer. Nicolas Jackson was quite underwhelming last season, and the Blues need to bring in an upgrade. The 20-year-old Colombian striker would have been a quality long-term addition for them. Chelsea need to bring in the right additions if they are serious about pushing for major trophies.
Chelsea and West Ham need a striker
Chelsea have had two successive mediocre campaigns, and they will look to bounce back strongly next term. They will have to plug the weaknesses in their squad to do well next season. Signing a quality striker should be a top priority for them. They were overly dependent on Cole Palmer for goals last season. The England international needs more support in the attack, and Duran would have been a long-term investment for them.
Meanwhile, West Ham need to bring in a quality striker as well. Michail Antonio and Danny Ings were quite poor last season, and they will need to be replaced. West Ham will be hoping to secure European qualification in the upcoming campaign, and they need to sign better players in order for that to happen.
It will be interesting to see if they can bring in a reliable goalscorer before the summer transfer window closes. West Ham have the finances to get the deal done, and they have a quality manager like Julen Lopetegui at the helm as well.
As for the 20-year-old Aston Villa striker, he will look to join a club where he will get regular game time next season, and he was keen on joining West Ham. He cannot afford to sit on the bench at this stage of his career.
