Chelsea held positive talks with Atletico Madrid regarding the sale of academy graduate Conor Gallagher in a deal worth €40 million.
Conor Gallagher’s future has been the talk of the town since the start of the summer. Chelsea are keen on cashing in on their academy graduate and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues were involved in productive discussions with Atletico Madrid who intend to strike a deal before the end of the window.
Gallagher has been at Chelsea since his childhood days, he came up the ranks at some pace and has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2022. Last season, the 24-year-old was one of their standout performers. The English midfielder finished with seven goals and nine assists in his 50 outings.
Despite his heroics, the Blues have been keen on sanctioning his departure. His contract at Stamford Bridge runs out in 12 months and the club doesn’t want to lose out on him for free next summer. As a result, they have been open to his departure and have reportedly banished him from the first team.

While Tottenham have a long-standing interest in Gallagher and were keen on signing the Chelsea graduate, Atletico Madrid have taken centre-stage in the transfer saga. Diego Simeone wants more quality in the centre of the park as he looks to bounce back after a disappointing run last season.
He feels Gallagher could be an ideal fit for his system and his ability to feature in different roles could be an added advantage. The Madrid-based club have been involved in talks with the Blues for some time and according to the Italian transfer expert, both parties have held positive talks about a potential move today.
They are working to get the green light from the player who doesn’t seem keen on leaving his childhood club.
