Newcastle United initiate discussions to sign Marc Guehi

Newcastle United have opened talks to sign Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Marc Guehi amidst interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

According to a report from HITC, Newcastle United are now front-runners for the signature of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi. The Magpies want to reinforce their backline before the start of the new season and have opened talks with the Eagles to sign the English international.

Things might not have worked out at Chelsea for Guehi. But the move to Crystal Palace has done wonders. The Englishman has been a consistent performer for them at the back, and he further enhanced his reputation with an impressive display at Euro 2024 while playing for Gareth Southgate’s England.

Multiple top clubs want to prise him away from the Eagles. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are all keen on signing the 24-year-old defender, who still has two years left on his current contract. While Mikel Arteta’s team have been linked with him, they have already added Riccardo Calafiori to their squad.

However, the Reds are looking for depth at the back, and the Blues want a more established Premier League defender with their young stars struggling to fire. While Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool have been monitoring his situation, Newcastle seem to have overtaken them in their pursuit of Guehi’s signature.

Newcastle United open talks to sign Guehi

The Magpies have already opened talks with Crystal Palace as they look to sign the English international. They have enquired about the cost of the operation. After parting ways with Michael Olise, who has joined Bayern Munich, Palace made their stance of Guehi quite clear. They do not want to part ways with their defensive mainstay.

Despite their stance clubs will try to test their resolve. While the Chelsea academy graduate’s contract doesn’t have a release clause, the report suggests that the Eagles want in excess of £60 million. Despite the massive price tag, Newcastle United are confident that they lure him away and that too for less than £60 million.

Eddie Howe’s team might have already signed Lloyd Kelly to add depth to their backline. But they are still on the lookout for a new right-sided centre-back. They feel Guehi could be the ideal signing for the long run as they plan to establish themselves as one of the best clubs in the country.
