Manchester United are reportedly looking at PSV Eindhoven midfield mainstay Joey Veerman as an alternative to Manuel Ugarte.
Manchester United are keen on reinforcing their midfield before the start of the 2024/25 season. Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is their priority target. But they are also looking at alternatives as a deal with the French giants won’t be that straightforward. According to Duncan Castles via The Transfers Podcast, the Red Devils have their eyes set on PSV Eindhoven sensation Joey Veerman.
Manchester United want to sign a new midfielder
Manchester United’s new-look recruitment team are working very hard to ensure they have a strong enough squad for next season. While they have already added a few stars to their squad, a lot of work is still to be done. With Casemiro and Scott McTominay’s future uncertain, they need to bring in a new defensive midfielder.
The Red Devils are looking for a long-term partner for their teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo. Ugarte has been on their wishlist since the start of the window. Manchester United consider him to be the right fit for Erik ten Hag’s system. While he did do a decent job in his debut season at PSG, the French club are not entirely convinced by him and are ready to sanction his departure.
While they are open to a loan move, they want a buy obligation clause included. Manchester United have been working on a potential deal for some time. They already have the green light from the player, but striking a deal with PSG is proving difficult.
Manchester United are looking at Joey Veerman
Reports suggest PSG’s asking price could be a problem for Manchester United. However, they are already prepared for a situation where they might no longer be able to push for the services of the Uruguayan international. They have a list of alternatives, and PSV Eindhoven’s Joey Veerman is one of them.
The Dutch international has gone from strength to strength since joining Eindhoven at the start of 2022. While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, he is capable enough to play in an advanced role as well as in a deeper role if needed.
He contributed towards 26 goals (7 goals, 19 assists) last season and with his contract running out in two years, United could look to prise him away from the Netherlands. While they are interested in the 25-year-old, their priority will be to strike a deal for Ugarte.
