Tottenham Hotspur looking to hijack Atletico Madrid move for Conor Gallagher

Tottenham are reportedly looking to hijack Atletico Madrid’s attempts to sign Conor Gallagher, as the race seems to be open.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are still keen on Conor Gallagher and could look to hijack Atletico Madrid’s move for the midfielder. Chelsea and the Spanish giants may have come close to an agreement, but reports suggest the midfielder has yet to make a firm decision on his future.

Tottenham to hijack Conor Gallagher deal?

At times, clubs have a price for Premier League sides and a different asking rate for teams from abroad, and Chelsea might have adopted a similar strategy. The Blues have been actively looking to offload Conor Gallagher to make a profit from the midfielder’s sale, and they have been moving the blocks in recent days.

Atletico Madrid are close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea for a fee in the region of £25-30 million, which does seem less than what the Blues had targeted. They had reportedly sought to sell Gallagher for at least £40 million and could still achieve that feat should Tottenham make a serious attempt to hijack the deal.

Tottenham are still interested in Gallagher, and as things stand, they plan on hijacking Atletico’s deal. Ange Postecoglou had wanted the £25-30 million-rated Chelsea star for some time now, and this might be the last chance for them to try and make the transfer happen.

The possibility of a hijack is still very much possible, as Gallagher has not given his go-ahead to join Atletico, and neither has Chelsea agreed on a move yet. The Blues may also be open to selling the midfielder to a London rival, even if, traditionally, the two clubs have rarely done business.

Gallagher to make a future decision

Should Chelsea agree on a deal with Atletico in the coming days, any move will still depend on Gallagher’s approval of his new destination. Tottenham could grow in confidence, especially if they paid Chelsea more than Atletico offered.

However, Gallagher has a big decision if Spurs come into the equation. Coming from a family of lifelong Chelsea fans, Gallagher will be wary of the backlash should he join Tottenham, although he also has no reasons to turn down Atletico. However, he’s built for the Premier League.
