Atletico Madrid reach agreement in principle to sign Conor Gallagher

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, and they have already reached an agreement with the Premier League club.

According to talkSPORT, Chelsea have secured an agreement in principle with La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid over a deal for Conor Gallagher. The midfielder is valued at around £50 million, but Chelsea have agreed to sell him for £33 million.

Meanwhile, Tottenham remain keen on the player as well. But it seems that Gallagher is not open to the move. He is uninterested in joining Chelsea’s London rivals this summer. Tottenham are set to fail in their pursuit of the England international. In addition, the player is keen on competing in the UEFA Champions League, and Atletico Madrid will be able to provide him with that platform.

It remains to be seen whether the Spanish outfit can get the deal across the line now. Gallagher has the physical and technical attributes to do well in La Liga, and he could be a key player for Atletico Madrid in Diego Simeone’s system.

The 24-year-old has all the tools to develop into a top-class player with the right guidance. Regular football at a top club and working with a world-class manager like Simeone could take the English international to another level.

Meanwhile, he was a key player for Chelsea last season, and it will be interesting to see if the Blues can replace him adequately. Los Rojiblancos are already lacking in depth in the central midfield, and they could find it difficult to replace a player like Conor Gallagher, especially without Champions League football.

Gallagher could be excited to join Atletico Madrid

The England international will be looking to try out a new challenge at this stage of his career, and a move to Atletico Madrid can be quite exciting. Los Rojiblancos are one of the biggest clubs in Spain, and they have been pushing for major trophies quite often under Simeone.

The Argentine manager will hope to guide his side to a league title next season, and he needs to plug the weaknesses in his squad in order to take on the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga. Signing up a quality central midfielder will certainly help them improve.

The Chelsea midfielder is yet to reach his peak, and he is likely to improve further. The £33 million investment could look like a major bargain in the long term. In addition, they might be happy to have signed the Englishman for less than his £50 million asking price.
