West Ham United in talks to sign Elye Wahi

West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 21-year-old French attacker Elye Wahi from RC Lens this summer.

According to a report from French outlet L’Equipe, West Ham United are currently in talks to sign 21-year-old RC Lens attacker Elye Wahi, but they will face competition from fellow London club Chelsea this summer.

The Hammers need to bring in a quality striker who can lead the line for them and score goals consistently. So, it is hardly surprising that they have shown interest in several strikers, including Niclas Fullkrug.

Wahi has done quite well for Ligue 1 club Lens, and he scored 12 goals in all competitions last season. The Frenchman has the quality to thrive in the Premier League, and he could transform West Ham in the final third.

West Ham need to bring upgrades on players like Michail Antonio and Danny Ings if they want to compete in Europe regularly and do well in the domestic trophies. Both players have been quite underwhelming and West Ham need a reliable goalscorer.

West Ham would do well to sign Elye Wahi

The 21-year-old is highly rated across Europe, and he has a bright future. He could develop into a key player for the Hammers with the right guidance. The opportunity to move to the Premier League will be quite attractive for him, and he would get to play under a top class manager like Julen Lopetegui as well.

Ample exposure in English football could accelerate his development. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been linked with the talented young French attacker as well. The Blues will have to improve their attacking options this summer. Nicolas Jackson was quite underwhelming last season, and the Blues had to rely on Cole Palmer for goals.

The England international needs more support in the attack. So, Elye Wahi could be the ideal long-term acquisition. Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the 21-year-old will be tempted to join them. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds over the next few weeks.

The French attacker will want to join a club where he will get regular game time and a clear pathway for development. Both clubs have the financial resources to get the deal done, and it remains to be seen where he ends up.
