Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly close to sealing the deal to sign 17-year-old England youth international Christian McFarlane from New York City FC.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Christian McFarlane is the subject of interest from Manchester City. Brighton & Hove Albion and German clubs were also keen on signing the England youth international. However, the Premier League champions have struck a deal with New York City FC for the highly-rated teenager.
Who is Christian McFarlane?
Christian McFarlane is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in the USA. A native of Basildon, the English prodigy spent his formative years in America, beginning his youth career at JIGS Soccer Academy in 2014 before joining New York City FC in 2018.
Since then, the 17-year-old has come leaps and bounds at the MLS club and turned professional in 2021, becoming the third youngest player to sign an MLS contract. McFarlane made his first-team bow for New York City FC earlier in the 2024 season and has already turned out five times for the MLS club.
The teenage prospect is a left-back by trade and has represented England in age-group football. McFarlane currently turns out for England’s under-17 team and has made nine appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe.
