Chelsea remain keen on Samu Omorodion

Chelsea have not given up in the pursuit of Samu Omorodion, with the club planning on a fresh approach despite Atletico Madrid’s demands.

According to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness, Chelsea are still in the chase for Samu Omorodion despite Atletico Madrid rejecting many of their previous bids. The Spanish giants are holding out for a huge fee to sell the striker, who they are planning to include in their first-team plans, with the Blues not giving up just yet.

Chelsea remain in Samu Omorodion hunt

Chelsea are looking for a new striker in this market, that may not necessarily be a marquee name. They are leaning more towards another young, unpolished centre-forward despite links to some big names like Victor Osimhen in the past.

Earlier in the window, they tried very hard to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, who may now end up joining West Ham United. They also had Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion in sight, with the Spanish side rejecting a bid worth £42 million as per some reports, which at that point did meet with the La Liga side’s asking rate.

Atletico Madrid are now demanding €70 million for the highly-rated forward with a single big season under his belt in the top flight. Chelsea are not giving up their chase of the 20-year-old striker, as they could return with a fresh approach to test his club.

Earlier reports suggested that after numerous rejections, Chelsea abandoned their chase of Omorodion, although that did not appear to be the case. Enzo Maresca wants a new centre-forward, and it might as well be a young star, with Armando Broja likely to make way should a new striker arrive.

Atletico Madrid have big plans for Omorodion

Atletico Madrid have seen enough of Omorodion and had a good opportunity to cash in big after a single season in La Liga. Yet, they have chosen to keep hold of the striker, as Diego Simeone wants to use him in his first-team plans next season.

There’s a readymade place for the 20-year-old to flourish after Alvaro Morata’s departure to AC Milan. Hence, he would get ample opportunities at Atletico in the upcoming season, although the lure of joining Chelsea in a big-money move might also play in his mind. They will only consider offers that come close to their €70 million valuation for the young striker, as it remains to be seen if Chelsea is prepared to pay as much.
