Kalvin Phillips wants Manchester City exit

Kalvin Phillips is pushing for a permanent exit from Manchester City amidst interest from Everton and Aston Villa.

According to a report from Football Insider, Kalvin Phillips seeks a permanent departure from Manchester City. The former Leeds United midfielder has no intentions of going on another loan and has made a decision to leave the club amidst interest from Everton and Aston Villa.

Phillips made quite a name for himself at Leeds United before making a big-money move (£42 million) to Manchester City in the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to reach the expected levels at his new club.

He has only featured in 31 matches for them with 17 of those appearances coming off the bench. He has fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola and was sent out on loan to West Ham United for the second half of last season.

While he did see it as an opportunity to bounce back, even the loan spell didn’t work out. He is back at his parent club and still has four years left on his contract but has no future at City.

Phillips has already informed the club that he wants to leave permanently. The 28-year-old is not keen on another loan move. He wants a permanent exit as he wants to settle at a new club and revive his career under a new manager who backs him.

City won’t mind sanctioning his departure as it will give them an opportunity to cut their losses. Reports suggest that they are willing to accept a fee as low as £20 million.

Everton and Aston Villa keen on Phillips

While City are ready to sell and there is interest in his services from Everton and Aston Villa, both Premier League outfits will prefer signing him on a season-long loan.

They have been keeping an eye on his progress and would love to have him in their squad as Phillips still has time to get back to his best. He could be a great defensive midfield option for both teams.

At Everton, he could help cope with the absence of Amadou Onana while at Aston Villa he could partner the Belgian international with Douglas Luiz no longer at the club.

While Phillips is pushing for a permanent move, neither club are in a financial position where they can push for a permanent move, as a result, it will be interesting to see how things pan out for the English international.
