Chelsea have essentially reached agreement to sign Filip Jorgensen

Premier League giants Chelsea and La Liga club Villarreal have “practically” sealed an agreement over a deal for 22-year-old goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

According to a report by El Periodico Mediterraneo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Filip Jorgensen is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have been scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. And they have “practically” secured an agreement with La Liga club Villarreal over a deal for the 22-year-old goalkeeper.

The rise of Filip Jorgensen

Filip Jorgensen established himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in La Liga after his breakthrough campaign at Villarreal. Born in Sweden, the youngster has chosen Denmark as his national side at the under-21 level. Meanwhile, he has been in Spain for over a decade, moving to the country in January 2014.

The 22-year-old has been with Villarreal since July 2015 and has gone from strength to strength at the Spanish club. However, Jorgensen had to wait until the 2023/24 campaign to become a regular for the Yellow Submarine. The youngster was dependable last term, missing only two La Liga games.

Meanwhile, Filip Jorgensen’s progress at Villarreal has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, particularly in the Premier League. A move to England in the summer transfer window is on the cards, with Chelsea pushing hard for his signature.

From La Liga to the Premier League?

Chelsea’s interest in Filip Jorgensen is understandable. The Blues have been busy in the goalkeeping market in recent years, including two last summer transfer windows. However, they have yet to find the right fit in their system. So, they have combed the market for a shot-stopper this year, with the Villarreal prospect emerging as the top target.

Personal terms have never been an issue for either Chelsea or Jorgensen. However, the young goalkeeper’s release clause of €45 million initially posed a problem, although Villarreal had been happy to sell him for around €25 million. The latest update has revealed that the two clubs “practically” have an agreement for the 22-year-old.

With Jorgensen on the cusp of joining Chelsea, he will hope to hit the ground running at the West London club. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see which goalkeepers leave Chelsea before the summer transfer window shuts down.
