Newcastle United will reportedly compete with AS Roma to sign 21-year-old Spanish defender Marc Pubill from La Liga 2 club Almeria in the summer transfer window.
According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Marc Pubill is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window. They have thus set their sights on the 21-year-old defender, who has travelled to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.
Who is Marc Pubill?
Marc Pubill is one of the brightest young defenders in his homeland. A native of Terrassa, the Spaniard passed through the academies at four clubs in his youth career, graduating from the youth division at Levante UD. He made his first-team bow for Levante in December 2021 as an 18-year-old.
The 21-year-old has made considerable progress since joining UD Almeria from Levante last summer. While Pubill was not the undisputed first-choice right-back for Almeria, he made his mark in his 23 outings for the relegated La Liga club while chipping in with one goal and three assists.
Meanwhile, Marc Pubill’s progress at UD Almeria has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. The Spanish defender, who has travelled to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, has previously alerted Aston Villa and is currently on the radar of Newcastle United.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Newcastle United’s interest in Marc Pubill is understandable. The Magpies have been scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Kieran Trippier. In addition, the experienced Englishman is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career.
So, it behoves Newcastle United to invest in a right-back, with Pubill emerging as a viable target for the Tyneside outfit. However, the Premier League club will face stiff competition from AS Roma for the Olympics-bound Spanish defender in the summer transfer window.
