Leicester City in talks to sign Reiss Nelson on loan

Newly promoted Premier League club Leicester City will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson on loan this summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Reiss Nelson is the subject of interest from Leicester City. The Foxes continue reinforcing their squad to remain in the Premier League after securing promotion from the EFL Championship. They have opened talks with Arsenal to sign the 24-year-old homegrown forward over an initial loan deal with a mandatory purchase clause.

Reiss Nelson and his Arsenal anguish

Reiss Nelson has struggled to carve out a spot for himself in the first-team squad at Arsenal despite making his senior bow as a promising teenager. Since then, the Englishman has failed to stamp his authority in the Arsenal first team, with his most memorable period coming on loan at TSG Hoffenheim.

The 24-year-old has managed only eight goals and nine assists despite turning out nearly 100 times thus far for Arsenal, although most of his outings have come off the bench. So, it is hardly surprising that Nelson faces an uncertain future at the Emirates midway through the summer transfer window.

The homegrown player does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with several well-known Premier League clubs setting their sights on him. Recent reports have linked the English attacker with West Ham United, Crystal Palace, and Fulham. However, Reiss Nelson’s next destination might be Leicester City.

Will Leicester City beat the competition to Nelson?

Leicester City’s interest in Reiss Nelson is understandable. The Foxes are working hard on a cost-effective construction of their squad after returning to the Premier League. With financial issues troubling Leicester City, they must focus on economical deals like loans and free transfers in the summer transfer window.

So, the newly promoted Premier League club and Arsenal have been in talks over an initial loan deal for Nelson. The arrangement will include a mandatory purchase clause, with the former Premier League champions confident of securing the 24-year-old Englishman’s services.

It is unclear if Nelson is open to joining Leicester City. However, after working previously with Steve Cooper, the English attacker might feel comfortable joining the Foxes in the summer transfer window, hoping to resurrect his stuttering career.
