Chelsea identify Filip Jorgensen as top summer target

Chelsea have identified Filip Jorgensen as their No.1 goalkeeper target this summer, as talks with Villarreal continue.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea have identified Filip Jorgensen as their No.1 target this summer to add competition to the goalkeeping ranks. The Villarreal star has established himself as a notable name in La Liga over the last 18 months, as his potential arrival at Stamford Bridge could spell the end to one of Robert Sanchez or Djorde Petrovic.

Chelsea are keen on Filip Jorgensen

Chelsea are making some headway in their transfer deals this summer, as they could soon bring in a new goalkeeper to shore up the ranks in that position. The Blues are heading in a new direction under new boss Enzo Maresca, who would prefer a ball-playing goalkeeper in his ranks.

Robert Sanchez certainly has that quality, and so does Djorde Petrovic, with one of the two likely to make way for a new shot-stopper. Chelsea are interested in Filip Jorgensen, with the Villarreal stopper thought to be interested in the switch should it happen in this window.

Earlier today, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea have made their first bid of about €20 million for Jorgensen and that the player is keen on the move. Any movement will depend on Villarreal’s valuation of the keeper, especially as the 22-year-old goalkeeper recently signed a new long-term deal at La Liga club Villarreal.

Chelsea appear to have narrowed down their search for a new keeper, as the Jorgensen deal might materialise. He does fit Maresca’s style and could come into the side to provide massive competition to their present options in Sanchez and Petrovic.

Chelsea making goalkeeping changes

Should Jorgensen arrive, one of Petrovic or Sanchez will depart, although the manager earlier placed confidence in the latter. Other reports stated the Spaniard could start the season as Chelsea’s No. 1, although Jorgensen’s arrival could keep the pressure on Sanchez. There are also links to Andriy Lunin, with the Ukrainian set to leave Real Madrid.

Chelsea is also looking for ways to offload Kepa Arrizabalaga, and they have so far rebuffed an approach from Saudi Arabia. Overall, it does appear that Petrovic might be the player to make way for Jorgensen this summer, while Kepa might also leave for a new challenge.
