Bryan Gil in advanced talks to join Girona

Bryan Gil is reportedly closing in on joining Girona, with the high-flying La Liga club advancing talks with the 23-year-old Tottenham forward.

According to a report by Football Insider, Bryan Gil is the subject of interest from Girona. The high-flying La Liga club will look to sign a wide attacker before the summer transfer window shuts down. Talks between the two parties have advanced, with Tottenham giving the 23-year-old permission to meet his suitors.

Bryan Gil and his Tottenham travails

Bryan Gil has struggled to make his mark since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Sevilla in July 2021. The Spaniard moved to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of a convoluted deal that saw Erik Lamela go the other way, while the North London outfit coughed up £21.6 million to seal the agreement.

However, Gil has barely scratched the surface at Tottenham, spending half of his stint away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including two loan spells back at Sevilla. The 23-year-old has not even racked up 50 appearances thus far for the North London club while providing only two assists.

The Spanish winger spent the 2023/24 season with Tottenham but barely featured in Ange Postecoglou’s team. So, it is hardly surprising that the Premier League heavyweights are ready to sanction Gil’s summer departure, with a return to La Liga on the cards. Recent reports have linked him with Sevilla, but Girona might steal a march on Los Nervionenses.

La Liga return on the cards?

Girona’s interest in Bryan Gil is understandable. The Catalan outfit’s incredible 2023/24 La Liga campaign has affected the first-team squad, with Aleix Garcia joining Bayer Leverkusen and Artem Dovbyk closing in on moving to Atletico Madrid. Other players, including Viktor Tsygankov, also face an uncertain future at Estadi Montilivi.

So, it behoves Girona to scour the market for a wide attacker, with Gil emerging as a viable target. The latest report claims that talks between the 23-year-old Spanish forward and the high-flying La Liga club have advanced.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will not stand in Bryan Gil’s way after granting him permission to seal a summer move away from the club. The Spaniard is not a part of the club’s pre-season plans and will likely begin his campaign after completing his exit, with Girona his potential destination.
