Chelsea priced out of move to re-sign Dominic Solanke

Chelsea will unlikely re-sign Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke in the summer transfer window due to his “prohibitive” release clause of £65 million.

According to a report by Football Insider, Dominic Solanke is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have considered re-signing the Bournemouth striker in the summer transfer window, with Tottenham also keen on securing his services. However, the England international has a release clause worth £65 million in his contract, with the price ruling the West London club out of the battle.

The rise of Dominic Solanke

Dominic Solanke has found a stable footing and resurrected his stuttering career since joining Bournemouth from Liverpool in January 2019. While the Englishman took some time to get going at the Vitality Stadium, he showed why he was a highly sought-after prodigy during his time in Chelsea’s fabled academy.

The 26-year-old has gradually grown in stature during his spell with Bournemouth and enjoyed his most productive campaign in the 2023/24 season. Solanke was top-class as he amassed 21 goals and four assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke’s exploits for Bournemouth have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs. Chelsea and Tottenham are the prospective suitors for the English striker in the summer transfer window, with Bournemouth pointing to his release clause of £65 million.

London return on the horizon?

Chelsea’s interest in Dominic Solanke is understandable. The Blues have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after Nicolas Jackson blew hot and cold last season. So, several strikers have emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with Solanke a viable target. However, the release clause of £65 million has priced the West London club out of the equation.

As for Tottenham, the North London club did not fill Harry Kane’s void with a top-notch striker last summer. So, they are considering bringing one to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this year. Solanke is thus an option worth considering for the London outfit.

The update by Football Insider does not mention if Dominic Solanke’s release clause of £65 million rules Tottenham out of the chase, like Chelsea. However, recent reports have suggested that the valuation might be an issue for the North London outfit. So, a summer departure from the Vitality Stadium will unlikely see the light of day.
