Panathinaikos make progress in talks to sign Facundo Pellistri

Panathinaikos are reportedly closing in on securing the signature of Manchester United attacking sensation Facundo Pellistri.

According to Giannis Chorianopoulos, Facundo Pellistri could soon part ways with Manchester United as Panathinaikos are closing in on his services. The Greek giants have made significant progress in talks to sign the Uruguayan international, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

Pellistri made the move to Old Trafford back in 2020 following an impressive rise at Penarol. The Red Devils forked out around £9 million to add his to their ranks. He was one of the brightest prospects of the game. But things have not worked out for him at the Red Devils.

The 22-year-old has failed to break into their first team and has only featured in 24 matches so far. He has spent a significant amount of time out on loan in recent seasons. While Facundo Pellistri was a part of the Manchester United squad for the first half of last season, he only got limited game time and they ended up sending him out on loan to Granada for the second half.

He had a decent spell at the Spanish club with two goals and two assists in 15 outings. The Uruguayan international also add an impressive spell at Copa America after the end of the 2023/24 season. While he is back at his parent club, he does not seem to have a future at Old Trafford.

Panathinaikos make progress in talks for Pellistri

Despite his recent heroics, Manchester United do not consider Facundo Pellistri to be an important part of their plans moving ahead. With just 12 months left on his deal, they are looking to cash in on him as per reports. The Red Devils might not want to lose out on him for free next summer. As a result, sanctioning his departure does seem to be the right thing to do.

Panathinaikos are keen on signing the 22-year-old winger as they look to reinforce their attack. Things might not have worked out well for Pellistri at Manchester United. But he still has a lot of time to bounce back. The Greek club have been involved in negotiations with the Red Devils for some time now.

They have finally made some significant progress towards signing him during talks with Manchester United as reported by Chorianopoulos. With things progressing in the right direction, it will be interesting to see if Panathinaikos manage to sign him as other European clubs could enter the race.
