Tottenham set to step up interest in Conor Gallagher

Tottenham will step up their interest in Conor Gallagher despite plenty of stumbling blocks in signing the Chelsea midfielder.

According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham are still firmly in the race for Conor Gallagher and could step up their interest in the midfielder. Chelsea are seemingly open to offers of their choice, something Spurs have not planned on coming close to, with the Blues demanding £55 million for the homegrown star.

Tottenham retain interest in Conor Gallagher

The Conor Gallagher transfer story still has plenty of legs despite Chelsea recovering from the PSR problems without needing to sell the midfielder. England International had a good enough season at the club level to help the Blues retain their value, which could help them in the market ahead.

Tottenham are still in the race and ready to step up the pursuit, as a possible approach could be on the cards. Spurs might have to test Chelsea with an offer deemed closer to their asking price, although the north Londoners had valued the England international at £35 million last summer.

Ange Postecoglou is keen to add a player of player of Gallaghher’s quality, which could offset the potential sale of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Gallagher brings what the Australian manager wants, as Spurs have already added midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United.

Gallagher’s addition could be the final piece of Postecoglou’s midfield puzzle this summer, barring key exits from this point onwards. To sign the Chelsea mainstay, Spurs may have to shell out a considerable sum, with some quarters suggesting an asking price of £55 million from the Blues.

Chelsea will sell Gallagher for £55 million

Chelsea are pointing towards a £55 million asking rate for Gallagher, citing the price Manchester United paid for Mason Mount last summer. The latter was also in the final year of his deal. However, for the 24-year-old, the situation is different to that of the Red Devils star, as he might be pushed out of the club’s new signings.

For instance, Chelsea have already signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who could pose a direct threat to Gallagher’s role in the squad. With a year left and the danger of losing a player on the free next summer, Chelsea might opt to sell the midfielder, but at their price.
