Everton express interest in Kalvin Phillips

Everton are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips ahead of next season.

According to a report from Football Insider, Everton are keen on signing Kalvin Phillips this summer as they look to reinforce their midfield. The English international is not a part of Manchester City’s plans moving ahead. They are ready to sanction his departure and the Toffees are looking to incorporate him into Sean Dyche’s team.

Phillips made quite a name for himself with his exceptional performances for Leeds United before securing a big-money move to Pep Guardiola’s City in the summer of 2022. They forked out £42 million to have him in their squad.

Unfortunately, the move hasn’t worked out for either party. Phillips hasn’t been able to break into Guardiola’s team and hasn’t had much game time over the last two seasons. While he did join West Ham United on a short loan at the start of the year, even that didn’t go according to plan.

He still has four years left on his deal but City are keen on getting him off their books and there is interest in him from Everton. The Merseyside club have already registered their interest in signing the English international who is looking for an opportunity to revive himself.

Aston Villa eye Phillips as Onana’s replacement

With Amadou Onana closing in on a move to Aston Villa in a deal worth around £50 million, the Toffees are looking for an ideal replacement who can fill his boots in the defensive midfield role. Dyche is keen on having an experienced Premier League campaigner who can directly slot into his playing XI and they feel Phillips could be the guy.

While he and Onana are two completely different types of defensive midfielders, the former Leeds star can surely have a similar impact. He was at the peak of his power during his time at Leeds and he can still turn things around with quite a few years left in him.

Everton seem willing to bet on the 28-year-old despite recent struggles. While they haven’t made a formal offer yet, Dyche is quite keen on reviving the English international and it won’t be a surprise if they do make a move for him.
