West Ham United initiate discussions to sign Reiss Nelson

West Ham have opened talks with Arsenal to discuss a deal for Reiss Nelson, with the winger likely to agree on a move to the London Stadium.

According to Football Insider, West Ham have initiated talks with Arsenal for Reiss Nelson as they are looking to tie up a move for the winger. The Gunners are open to offers for the £25 million-rated homegrown player, although they will not accept a discounted price.

West Ham in Reiss Nelson talks

West Ham’s interest in Reiss Nelson refuses to go away, as the club seems serious about the winger. Julen Lopetergui seems intent on strengthening his attacking options, particularly in the wide and central areas, and could see the addition of Nelson as a good piece of business.

The Hammers were in contact with Arsenal for the winger, and now they might be taking the following steps to get a deal in place. West Ham have opened talks with the Gunners to find a solution to the attacker’s future, with the north Londoners demanding more than £20 million as per old reports.

The current story indicates they want around £25 million for their homegrown stars, which will benefit them massively financially. Selling homegrown players for massive profits has been the theme of this transfer window, and Arsenal have more than a couple of stars to offload.

The Hammers might have to make a concrete bid, and they will have ample information through Nelson’s camp and intermediaries about how much Arsenal wants. Hence, they have to be on point when making that expected offer in the coming days or face the same fate that Fulham and Crystal Palace experienced when the Gunners rejected their bid for Emile Smith-Rowe recently.

Will Nelson want West Ham to move?

Nelson is indeed open to joining the Hammers should the two clubs find an agreement. However, the  £25 million-rated Arsenal homegrown player may not have a shortage of offers in this window, as Fulham and Crystal Palace are also reportedly keen.

Joining West Ham would enable Nelson to stay in London and familiarize himself with the surrounding areas so that he can continue playing his football here. Arsenal has no plans to use Nelson much next season, although they will not budge on their asking price, as Edu Gaspar will want to maximize the profit earned from the sale of homegrown talent.
