Liverpool submit enquiry for Teun Koopmeiners, Manchester United could launch late move

Liverpool have enquired about the availability of Teun Koopmeiners, Manchester United could make a late move for the Atalanta ace.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Liverpool and Manchester United are both interested in the services of Teun Koopmeiners. Both clubs want to bolster their ranks this summer and feel the Atalanta star could be an ideal addition to their squad.

Koopmeiners came up the ranks at AZ Alkmaar and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before securing a move to the Italian club back in 2021. The Dutch international has gone from strength to strength since joining Atalanta and his consistent performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

The 26-year-old was involved in 51 matches last season, he scored 15 goals and even bagged seven assists. While the majority of his appearances came as a number ten, Koopmeiners was even deployed in a defensive role as well as on the right flank when needed.

His consistent performances along with his versatility have caught the attention of quite a few clubs from across Europe. While Juventus remain interested in his signature, clubs from the Premier League could make things difficult for the Old Lady.

Liverpool keen on Koopmeiners

Liverpool are one of the English giants who are keen on his signature. They want to add another world-class midfielder to their ranks and Koopmeiners is quite high on their wishlist. While Arne Slot seeks an attacking option, he gets a package in the Atalanta star who can feature in other roles as well.

The Reds have already knocked on the doors of Atalanta who have quite a clear stance on his future. With three years left on his deal, they will only sanction his departure for a fee of around €60 million. They had turned down an offer of €47 million from Napoli last summer which suggest even €50 million won’t be enough.

United could make a late appearance

Given the kind of season he had, an initial €55 million with another €5 as bonuses could do the trick. While the Reds are considering moving ahead with their pursuit, it seems United also hold an interest in the versatile star who can cover for Burno Fernandes and could strengthen their midfield as a whole.

The report suggests United could make a late move for his services as Atalanta are expected to wait until the very end for Juventus to gather funds given the relations between the two clubs.
