Arsenal schedule medical for Tommy Setford

Arsenal have scheduled medical tests for Tommy Setford, who is set to join from Ajax in a deal close to €1 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have booked medical tests for Tommy Setford, who is set to join the Gunners in the coming period. The North London side have agreed to a deal with Ajax, who will receive close to €1 million for the 18-year-old England youth international.

Tommy Setford set for Arsenal medical

Arsenal have been looking for a new goalkeeper, not particularly someone to join their first-team ranks or at least replace second-choice Aaron Ramsdale. The Gunners have renewed focus on their youth teams and wanted to bring a top-quality star to join their academy ranks, probably at the most senior level.

The Gunners have entered this summer window with a separate budget for academy signings, and Ajax’s Tommy Setford might be the first of many to arrive. Arsenal had set sights on the Ajax star for some time now, and after brief negotiations with the Eredivisie side, they may have found a way.

Once the interest was revealed, Setford was keen on joining, and now Arsenal have found an agreement with Ajax to sign the 18-year-old England youth international. The Gunners will pay around €1 million to the Dutch side for the teenager, who will make his move in the coming period.

In fact, Arsenal have scheduled medical tests for the goalkeeper, as the move seems closer than ever. Setford will likely take up a big role in their U-21 side and will be on the brink of first-team action. Mikel Arteta might regularly call up the 18-year-old to train with the first team, as he is considered a big talent for the future.

Arsenal still searching for a first-team goalkeeper?

Arsenal could lose Karl Hein to a loan move, although the young Estonian has signed a new deal before leaving. His potential departure would leave a gap in the goalkeeping ranks, as the Gunners could continue looking for a new goalkeeper.

Wolves’ Dan Bentley remains a target, as the Gunners have already seen a bid turned down by the Midlands side for the 30-year-old. Things have gone quiet in the subsequent weeks about the Wolves star, although there is a chance the Gunners will return with an improved offer. Meanwhile, if they are not looking for a new third-choice keeper, Setford could potentially grab the opportunity and take that position.
