Everton hopeful of landing Wilfried Gnonto as Newcastle United attempt hijack

Everton are not worried about Newcastle United’s late entry in the Wilfried Gnonto chase, as they are confident about signing the Italian.

According to TEAMtalk, Everton are confident about signing Wilfried Gnonto despite Newcastle United’s late entry into the chase. The Leeds United attacker could be in the market this time around after last summer’s fiasco, and the Toffees are hopeful of a successful revival in this chase.

Everton confident about signing Wilfried Gnonto

Some might remember an agitated Wilfried Gnonto demanding that he leave Leeds United last summer following their relegation from the Premier League. The West Yorkshire side stood firm on their £30 million valuation and did not budge despite Everton’s high-profile interest in the Italian international.

Leeds United failed to reach the top flight after a defeat in the play-offs final. They could allow Gnonto to leave and are demanding at least £25 million for the winger. Everton are interested in the Italian international, and they are eager to revive their interest from last summer and get a deal in place for the attacker.

Sean Dyche’s side lack wide options despite re-signing Jack Harrison from Leeds United. The Toffees could also lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer and might have to search for a new striker. As for Wilfried Gnonto, he was their No.1 target for the wide attacking role, and they might get their man this time out.

Everton might negotiate the asking price for the £25 million-rated Italian international with Leeds United. Gnonto had a decent season with Leeds, scoring nine times in the Championships, which may have helped keep his evaluation intact.

Everton not worried about Newcastle United’s interest

Newcastle United are seemingly trying to hijack Everton’s deal for Gnonto by preparing an enquiry for the Italian winger. The Magpies are keen to offload Miguel Almiron this summer and bring in a replacement, with some ambitious names thrown in the mix, including Xavi Simons and Raphinha.

The Tyneside outfit might see Gnonto as a more achievable target, although they could end up failing in their attempts to hijack Everton’s deal for the Leeds star. The Toffees are confident their good relations with Gnonto’s camp may prove enough to prise the winger ahead of Newcastle United.
