Manchester City want to seal Dani Olmo deal by July 15

Manchester City will reportedly look to seal the summer move for RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo before his release clause of €60 million expires.

According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Dani Olmo is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are keen on signing the RB Leipzig playmaker by July 15, the date his release clause of €60 million expires. Meanwhile, the Spanish international is also a target for Barcelona and Chelsea.

The Dani Olmo story

Dani Olmo has seen his stock skyrocket after an exceptional campaign at UEFA Euro 2024. The Spaniard had to bide his time before becoming the first-choice starter for La Roja. He was arguably the best performer for Spain in the knockout rounds as the nation returned to the summit of European football after 12 years.

The 26-year-old ended the European Championship as the joint-top scorer alongside five other players with three goals. Olmo also provided two assists but shared the Golden Boot with five men. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

A man in demand

The Spanish international has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time, with the Blaugrana making a few unsuccessful attempts to re-sign him. Barcelona’s continued interest in Olmo is understandable, considering Ilkay Gundogan is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the end of his glittering career.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Dani Olmo makes sense. The Blues have been ready to trigger the Spanish playmaker’s release clause of €60 million, with his versatility making him an option for the middle of the park and the offensive department. However, Chelsea and Barcelona have fallen behind Manchester City in the chase.

Pep Guardiola has driven Manchester City’s move for Olmo. The former Barcelona manager wants the 26-year-old Spaniard at the Etihad, with his qualities making him a potential long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva, whose long-term future is uncertain. The Premier League champions are stepping up their efforts to sign him and want to seal the deal by July 15.

Manchester City should not have any qualms about coughing up €60 million to secure Dani Olmo’s services in the summer transfer window. With Barcelona and Chelsea taking the back seat, a summer move to the Etihad might be on the cards.
