Atletico Madrid join race to sign Ivan Toney

Atletico Madrid are reportedly ready to battle Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham in the race for the services of Ivan Toney.

According to a report from HITC, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have entered the race for the services of Brentford ace Ivan Toney. They are all set to rival Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham in their pursuit of the English international, hoping to take him to La Liga. The Brentford striker will cost around £60 million in the summer transfer window.

With the European Championship coming to an end, Toney is now expected to decide his future in the coming weeks with the new season just over a month away and his contract at Brentford running out in 12 months. He has already rejected multiple renewal offers from the Bees.

While the Englishman has been an integral part of the Bees’ first team since joining them back in 2020, his time at the Gtech Community Stadium is coming to an end. The 28-year-old striker has already made it clear to the people at the West London club that he wants to join a bigger club this summer.

Four Premier League giants keen on Toney

There is interest in his services from multiple top Premier League clubs. Arsenal and Chelsea, who are looking for a new number nine to lead their line, have been linked with Toney. Meanwhile, Manchester United, who want to bring in a forward who can support Rasmus Hojlund, are also interested in the English striker.

Tottenham, who decided against signing a Harry Kane replacement last summer, are looking at Ivan Toney as an option to bolster their attack under Ange Postecoglou. While all four English giants have been keeping a close eye on the Brentford star, neither of them have stepped up their interest so far.

Atletico Madrid enquire about Toney

With none of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham making a move, other clubs have an opportunity to jump in, and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid seem to have done exactly that. Simeone’s team want to reinforce their attack, and they are in search of out-and-out number nine who has a strong physical presence and is efficient in front of the goal.

Ivan Toney has caught their attention and they have entered the race for his services. The Madrid-based club have enquired about the availability of the 28-year-old striker with the future of Alvaro Morata uncertain amid his links with Manchester United.

The major issue for all the interested clubs is Brentford’s stance as they are unwilling to drop their asking price below £50 million, and the report suggests it would take at least £60 million to sign him at this point.
