Adam Wharton will not leave Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window, thus handing a blow to Real Madrid and Manchester City’s prospects.
According to a report by The Sun, Adam Wharton has faced an uncertain future at Crystal Palace heading into the summer transfer window. Manchester City and Real Madrid are interested in signing the 20-year-old from the South London club. However, the young midfield prospect is not departing from Selhurst Park anytime soon.
The rapid rise of Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace
Adam Wharton has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024. The Englishman did not take long to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Selhurst Park, showcasing why the South London club aggressively pursued his signature.
The 20-year-old has already amassed nearly 1,500 minutes of game time across 16 appearances thus far for Crystal Palace, chipping in with three assists. Wharton’s exploits helped him earn a spot in England’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024, although he did not feature in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Adam Wharton’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with his ability to reprise any role in the middle of the park making him an attractive target for prospective suitors like Manchester City and Real Madrid. However, the England international has handed a blow to those clubs’ prospects, as he wants to stay at Selhurst Park beyond the summer transfer window.
A man in demand
Manchester City’s interest in Adam Wharton is understandable. The Premier League champions have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Matheus Nunes, and Kalvin Phillips. The Crystal Palace midfielder has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester City.
As for Real Madrid, the Merengues have lost Toni Kroos after the legendary German midfielder called time on his illustrious career. So, several candidates have emerged on Los Blancos’ radar, with Wharton among the targets. However, the 20-year-old English midfield prospect will not join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Other high-profile clubs have also shown interest in the Englishman heading into the summer transfer window. However, Wharton’s suitors must look elsewhere, with the youngster not going anywhere.
