Chelsea are holding out on their asking price of £55 million for Conor Gallagher amidst interest from Tottenham and Aston Villa.
According to a report from 90min, Chelsea are not willing to lower their asking price for Conor Gallagher. While they have made him available because of his contract situation, they will only sanction the departure of their academy graduate on their terms.
Gallagher has had an impressive rise at Chelsea. He proved himself during multiple loan spells away from the club before breaking into the first team in the summer of 2022. He had an impressive debut season and even managed to take things to another level last season under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino.
He was involved in a total of 50 matches and even contributed towards 16 goals (7 goals, 9 assists). The 24-year-old wore the armband for the majority of the season with Reece James out injured and his performances even helped him secure a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.
Chelsea won’t lower their demand for Gallagher
While the player is focused on helping England win the Euros, his future at club level is uncertain. The Blues are open to sanctioning his departure with his contract running out in 12 months. Now that he is in his final year, the London club are looking for a similar deal to the £55 million agreement with Manchester United for Mason Mount.
The Blues have no intentions of lowering their demands with the PSG deadlines now a story of the past. Chelsea are confident that they have complied with the financial rules and are now in no rush to let him leave on the cheap amidst interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham.
Tottenham and Aston Villa want Gallagher
The North London club have a long-standing interest in the England international. People at the club believe Gallagher could be an ideal fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system. With Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso expected to be on the move, the Chelsea star could be a sensational signing.
Spurs value the 23-year-old between £35 and £40 million, as a result, it will be interesting to see if they make a move. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are also looking to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Douglas Luiz.
While they are interested in signing Gallagher, they cannot afford to meet Chelsea’s demand. However, if Jhon Duran ends up leaving the club in the near future, Villa might stand a chance. With the Blues not willing to lower their demands, if no suitable bids arrive there is a chance of him continuing at the club. Chelsea will then push for a new deal.
The player is expected to return from the Euros and speak with his new boss Enzo Maresca before making any decisions about his future. He loves the club and won’t have a problem if there is a place in the Italian manager’s plans for him.
