Arsenal, Liverpool express interest in Baris Alper Yilmaz

Arsenal and Liverpool are both reportedly keen on signing Turkish attacking sensation Baris Alper Yilmaz this summer.

Baris Alper Yilmaz has put himself on the radar of multiple top clubs following an impressive run with Turkiye at Euro 2024. According to a report from Graeme Bailey on HITC, Arsenal and Liverpool have registered their interest in the services of the Galatasaray ace, who will cost around £22 million in the summer transfer window.

Vincenzo Montella’s Turkiye were one of the most scouted teams during the 2024 UEFA European Championship. While their run did end in the quarter-finals. multiple stars from that team are now expected to move to bigger clubs ahead of next season.

Baris Alper Yilmaz is one of the players who has attracted a lot of interest. While he might not have scored during the tournament, his ability on the ball and his pace have caught quite a few eyeballs.

The 24-year-old star is likened to Real Madrid legend Gareth Bale because of his ability to play anywhere in attack and even feature as a full-back on either flank along with his ability on the ball and his pace.

Baris Alper Yilmaz had an incredible season with the Turkish giants last time out as they won the Super Lig by smashing the 100-point barrier. He contributed towards 19 goals (7 goals, 12 assists) during the 2023/24 season. His performances for both club and country have resulted in a lot of interest.

Arsenal and Liverpool register interest in Yilmaz

While the £22 million-rated winger still has three years left on his deal with Galatasaray, his departure in the summer looks certain given the number of clubs that are interested in signing him. Arsenal and Liverpool have entered the race for his services.

While the Reds do have quite a few top stars on the flanks, they need to prepare for life without Mohamed Salah. The 32-year-old winger’s future at the club is uncertain, even if he does end up staying he is already in the final phase of his career. As a result, Baris Alper Yilmaz could be a great signing in the long run.

His versatility will give Arne Slot quite a few tactical options and in a few years, he could make the right-wing position his own. The Gunners are also looking for depth on the flanks. They want more quality on the left flank and given Yilmaz can feature both as full-back and winger, he will be a big boost for Mikel Arteta’s team.

Both English have expressed their interest in the Galatasaray forward via intermediaries. While they have taken the first major step towards a potential transfer, both Arsenal and Liverpool will have to watch out for the competition.
