Arsenal contact Wolverhampton Wanderers for Dan Bentley

Arsenal have established contact with Wolverhampton Wanderers as they look to re-sign their former academy player Dan Bentley.

Arsenal are looking to add more depth to the goalkeeping position ahead of next season, and they are interested in bringing Dan Bentley back to the club. According to a report from The Athletic, the Gunners have contacted Wolverhampton Wanderers as they look to strike a deal for the former Bristol City shot-stopper.

Bentley was a part of the Arsenal youth ranks back in the day. He left the club back in 2009 when he was with their Under-18 team. He was a part of the Bristol first-team setup for around four years before moving to Molineux in the winter of 2023.

The 30-year-old might have only featured in nine matches for the Wolves first-team, but he is considered to be quite an important part of their squad. While his current deal runs out in 12 months, extending it by another two years is possible.

While the Gunners are quite keen on signing him, Wolves do not want to part ways with Bentley, and they are unlikely to sanction his departure unless they have a good enough offer which can help them secure a replacement.

Arsenal keen on signing Bentley

Mikel Arteta added David Raya to his squad last summer on a season-long loan from Brentford with a purchase option. The Spanish goalkeeper managed to replace Aaron Ramsdale as their number one. The 26-year-old made a total of just 11 appearances last season.

The English international is frustrated by the lack of minutes and he is expected to be on the move this summer in search of regular first-team action. While Arsenal also have Karl Hein in their squad, Arteta wants a more reliable back-up option, and they feel their former academy star Bentley could be a great fit for the club.

He is well aware of how things function at the club and given the amount of experience he has, Bentley could easily be a quality backup option for them. While the Gunners have taken the first step and established contact with Wolves, it will be interesting to see if the North London club are willing to meet their demands to bring the 30-year-old back to the club.
