Chelsea considering Jorrel Hato swoop

Chelsea will reportedly compete with Arsenal and Real Madrid to sign 18-year-old Dutch wonderkid Jorrel Hato from Ajax this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Jorrel Hato is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the market for another centre-back despite signing Tosin Adarabioyo. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old Ajax wonderkid has also been a target for Arsenal and Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window.

Who is Jorrel Hato?

Jorrel Hato is one of the best young prospects of his generation. A native of Rotterdam, he began his youth career in his hometown before joining Ajax in 2018. Since then, the Dutchman has come leaps and bounds, rapidly progressing through the ranks at the fabled Dutch club before breaking into the first-team squad.

The 18-year-old made his first-team bow for Ajax in January 2023 and has since become a mainstay at the back for the Dutch outfit. Hato has already turned out 61 times while chipping in with one goal and three assists. Meanwhile, the Dutch defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Real Madrid.

High in demand

The young defensive wonderkid has been on Arsenal’s radar for several months, with the North London club eyeing him as a long-term central defensive solution. Reports have also claimed they might sell Jakub Kiwior to secure Jorrel Hato’s services in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s interest in Jorrel Hato is understandable. The Merengues have been scouring the market for a young centre-back heading into the summer transfer window, with Nacho leaving as a free agent. In addition, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are on the wrong side of 30. So, the 18-year-old Dutch wonderkid is a viable target for Real Madrid.

However, Arsenal and Real Madrid face stiff competition from Chelsea. The Blues have set their sights on the teenage defensive sensation after losing the race to sign Riccardo Calafiori to their fellow London club. So, Hato has emerged as an option worth considering for Chelsea.

But a summer move away from Ajax will unlikely see the light of day, considering Hato recently signed a new contract with the Dutch giants. So, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Real Madrid might need a mind-boggling offer to secure the Dutchman’s services in the summer transfer window.
