Nico Paz will soon leave Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal, with newly promoted La Liga club CD Leganes on the verge of signing the 19-year-old.
According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Real Madrid will loan out Nico Paz in the summer transfer window to help him gain first-team experience in the 2024/25 season. The 19-year-old will join CD Leganes after the newly promoted La Liga club’s sporting director recently met Los Blancos to discuss the teenage midfield sensation.
Who is Nico Paz?
Nico Paz is a rare academy graduate to break into the first-team squad at Real Madrid in the last few years. While Barcelona’s recent campaigns have witnessed the emergence of several highly-rated prospects, the Merengues have not provided that pathway to youngsters, with youth prospects usually returning to the club if they prove themselves elsewhere.
Instead, several promising prospects have left Real Madrid in the last few years, with Rafa Marin the latest as he closes in on joining Napoli in the summer transfer window. As for Nico Paz’s fortunes, the 19-year-old has turned out eight times thus far for Los Blancos, managing 128 minutes of game time.
A native of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he has chosen to represent Argentina on the international stage. Meanwhile, Nico Paz’s progress at Real Madrid has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several La Liga clubs, including Getafe. However, the Argentine youth international will likely join CD Leganes in the summer transfer window.
Move across La Liga on the cards?
CD Leganes’s interest in Nico Paz is understandable. The newly promoted La Liga club should look to bolster the first-team squad and become stable enough to remain in the top flight beyond the 2024/25 season.
So, the Madrilenian club’s sporting director has held talks with several La Liga clubs over possible loan deals. He recently met Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, with Nico Paz’s name on the agenda. The two clubs are closing in on hashing out an agreement over a season-long loan deal.
A season-long loan move to the newly promoted La Liga club should be good for Nico Paz’s progress. It will be interesting to see if the 19-year-old can establish himself as a pivotal figure for CD Leganes in the 2024/25 season if the move sees the light of day.
