Manchester United have reportedly asked for information about 22-year-old Girona full-back Miguel Gutierrez ahead of a potential summer move.
According to a report by Spanish journalist Rodra P, Miguel Gutierrez is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they have submitted an enquiry for the 22-year-old Girona full-back, who will cost around €35 million. However, he wants to return to Real Madrid this year.
The rise of Miguel Gutierrez at Girona
Miguel Gutierrez has established himself as one of the best young full-backs in La Liga since joining Girona from Real Madrid. A native of Madrid, the Spaniard began his youth career at ADYC before spending a few years with Getafe. He rose in prominence during his spell at Real Madrid’s fabled La Fabrica division.
The 22-year-old spent over a decade at Real Madrid but could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu. Girona snapped him in August 2022, and Gutierrez has gone from strength to strength in the last two years, particularly making his mark in the 2023/24 season.
The Spanish full-back chipped in with two goals and nine assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Miguel Gutierrez’s progress at Girona FC has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Manchester United. Meanwhile, his contract with Girona has a release clause worth €35 million.
Premier League move on the cards?
Manchester United’s interest in Miguel Gutierrez is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a left-back after a dreadful 2023/24 campaign that barely featured a natural left-back. Luke Shaw spent many months on the sidelines, while Tyrell Malacia did not play a game due to a long-term injury.
Gutierrez has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, with the latest update revealing an enquiry by the Premier League heavyweights. However, the Spaniard is waiting for an approach from Real Madrid as he wants to return to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid might delve into the market for a left-back if Fran Garcia leaves. Los Blancos can re-sign the Spanish full-back for just €8 million due to a buyback clause. So, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can turn Gutierrez’s head and bring the 22-year-old defender to Old Trafford.
