AC Milan keen on Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka

AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Carney Chukwuemeka as Paulo Fonseca eyes midfield reinforcements.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan could target Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka this summer as Paulo Fonseca looks for new midfielders. The former Aston Villa man could be made surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge should the Blues proceed with their plans to bring new midfielders themselves.

AC Milan plot Carney Chukwuemeka raid

Last summer, AC Milan took advantage of Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment and their desire to offload players by signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic. This time around, they could return to London for another star as they target Carney Chukwuemeka.

Milan have appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager after Stefano Pioli’s departure. The Italian wants midfield reinforcements, with Youssouf Fofana and now Chukwuemeka appearing to be their primary targets. Squad improvement is Milan’s big aim for the new season.

Chukwuemeka, who signed for Chelsea in an £18 million deal from Aston Villa back in 2022, has suffered numerous injury issues. At the beginning of last season, he appeared to have put those issues behind him, but he suffered a knee issue after scoring his first goal of the season against West Ham. He then went on to miss most of the campaign, making only nine Premier League appearances overall.

Milan could see another opportunity to acquire an unwanted Chelsea player, as they might plot a serious move for the 20-year-old midfield prodigy. The Blues will want to make a profit from the sale if they intend to, meaning Milan must make a significant proposal to please their counterparts.

Chukwuemeka surplus to requirements at Chelsea?

Chelsea are stacked in midfield, and although Chukwuemeka possesses the talent to become a top player, right now, he might be surplus to requirements under new boss Enzo Maresca. For instance, Chelsea are aggressively looking to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester and are also linked with Leeds United star Archie Gray, both midfielders, meaning the former Aston Villa man might be shown the door.

Selling Chukwuemeka makes sense from a Chelsea perspective, as they might not want these many midfielder on big wages to stay inactive in a team next season. Hence, Milan might have a big chance to sign the 20-year-old midfield prodigy should the Blues make him available for a transfer.
