Marc Guiu set to sign six-year contract with Chelsea

Barcelona’s attacking sensation Marc Guiu is reportedly all set to pen down a six-year deal at his new club Chelsea.

According to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Marc Guiu. They have reached an agreement in principle with the player regarding personal terms. He will be signing a six-year deal upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge with the Blues ready to trigger his release clause.

Guiu has been a part of Barcelona’s famous youth academy La Masia since 2013. He has come up the ranks at some pace and was involved in first-team games last season. Xavi gave him the first taste of senior football during the club’s pre-season tour to Japan in 2023.

While he was not promoted to the first team, the 18-year-old was a part of their squad in quite a few games across the season. He even featured in seven matches for the senior team and found the back of the net twice. Guiu scored the winner on his debut in their 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao back in October. He became Barcelona’s youngest-ever player to score on debut.

Chelsea close to completing Guiu’s signing

His impressive rise put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs. Chelsea were the ones keen on adding him to their ranks as they look to strengthen their attack. While they want to bring in a world-class striker who can lead their line next season, they also want to add the teenager to their squad with an eye on the future.

Guiu might not be ready to be a regular starter in the Premier League, but he can surely add depth. More importantly, the teenager has huge potential and he can become an important part of their first team in the near future.

While there is still a year left on his deal at Barcelona, and they would love to have him in their ranks for years to come, the Catalan giants cannot go much as he has a release clause worth just €6 million. The West London club have decided to trigger it, and they have been in negotiations with the player for a while now.

According to the report, Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with the player, and the Barcelona whizkid is all set to pen down a deal that will run until the summer of 2030. Once they trigger the release clause, the Blues will schedule a medical in London for the teenage sensation.
