Chelsea one step away from signing Aaron Anselmino

Chelsea are inching closer to signing Aaron Anselmino, but their desire to take him on board immediately is proving to be an issue for Boca Juniors.

According to Argentine outlet Ole, Chelsea are very close to signing exciting Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino ahead of their rivals. A small detail has yet to be fixed between the clubs, as it appears the Blues will end up paying a fee very close to the defender’s release clause.

Chelsea close to signing Aaron Anselmino

The race for Aaron Anselmino seems to have been won, and Chelsea appear to be the beneficiary of the young defender’s signature. The Blues have earmarked some of the best young talents from around, and the Boca Juniors defender certainly fits their profile requirements.

There are doubts whether he will get a lot of games from the start at Stamford Bridge in the coming season, although their transfer policy desperately needs a player of his quality. Anselmino reportedly has a $20 million release clause, and Chelsea are willing to pay around $18 million, which appears to have sealed the deal.

Boca Juniors are about to make a historic statement with a big sale, but they are keen on keeping the 19-year-old Argentine wonderkid at least until 2025. This means that they are open to a sale but are finding a way to delay the eventual departure, something Chelsea are not so open to agreeing to, as they want the defender to join the main squad for pre-season training.

This is a minor detail the two clubs must sort out within the next few days, or the deal could even collapse. Boca Juniors have already earmarked Valentin Gomez from Velez, meaning they are prepared for Anselmino’s departure if they cannot agree on fresh terms to keep the defender on board for another year.

Chelsea beat competition from Manchester United

Chelsea did not have it easy in their chase for Anselmino, as Manchester United was expected to make an offer for the 19-year-old Argentine wonderkid. The Red Devils have remained in constant dialogues with the people associated with the defender and probably even Boca.

However, Chelsea have managed to convince the defender, who now wants a transfer to Stamford Bridge. It remains to be seen whether the centre-back can join them immediately rather than a year later, with the Blues keen to integrate him as soon as possible.
