Chelsea set to submit improved offer for Samu Omorodion

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are all set to submit an improved offer for the services of Spanish forward Samu Omorodion.

According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea’s priority this summer is to sign a new striker and they have their eyes set on Samu Omorodion. While their initial offer was turned down by Atletico Madrid, the Blues are all set to return with an improved offer.

On the back of an impressive rise at Granada, Omorodion joined the Madrid-based club last summer. There was no place for him in Diego Simeone’s first team, and as a result, they ended up sending him out on loan to Deportivo Alaves.

During his year-long loan at Alaves, he was involved in 35 league matches and contributed towards 10 goals (9 goals, 1 assist). It was an impressive spell for the Spanish youth international and on the back of his performances there is high interest in him from Chelsea.

The Blues didn’t have the best of seasons last time and are now looking to make the necessary changes to ensure they can bounce back in the 2024/25 season. After struggling in front of goal at different stages in the season, Chelsea have made it their priority to bring in a new centre-forward.

While they had agreed a deal in principle to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa. Those talks have stalled. As a result, the London club have shifted their focus towards Omorodion.

Chelsea to return with a better offer for Omorodion

The Blues did knock on Atletico Madrid‘s door with an offer to prise him away. They made an initial bid worth around £27 million for the 20-year-old. But, that offer was deemed to be not good enough by Diego Simeone’s team.

Chelsea haven’t lost hopes and they are expected to submit an improved offer in the near future. The Madrid-based club are aware of it and they are bracing themselves for a better offer to arrive at their doorstep.

While the Blues are pushing hard for Omorodion’s services, it will be interesting to see if they see him as their preferred option to lead the line given he only has limited experience and is an unknown quantity to an extent.
