Arsenal and Liverpool keen on Lutsharel Geertruida

Arsenal and Liverpool are both interested in acquiring the services of Dutch full-back Lutsharel Geertruida this summer.

According to a report from Fichajes, Lutsharel Geertruida’s impressive rise at Feyenoord hasn’t gone unnoticed as Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing him. While there is interest from other clubs across Europe, the English giants are pushing hard to ensure they do not miss out on him.

Geertruida joined the youth setup of the Dutch club back in the summer of 2012. He went up the ranks at some pace and was promoted to their first team in 2018 and hasn’t looked back since.

He has been a consistent performer for Feyenoord and has played a big part in their recent success. In the 2023/24 campaign, he was involved in 47 matches and he managed to contribute towards 14 goals (9 goals, 5 goals).

On the back of his performances, the 23-year-old was included in the Dutch squad for the Euros 2024. While he is currently focused on the task at hand, Geertruida’s future has become the talk of the town given the amount of interest in him and the fact that his contract is running out in 12 months.

Arsenal are looking to further bolster their squad after once again falling short in the Premier League title race. Mikel Arteta is keen on adding key pieces to his team to ensure they can finally lift the league title in the 2024/25 campaign.

Arsenal and Liverpool in a battle to sign Geertruida

While signing a world-class striker is a top priority for them, the Gunners also want to reinforce their defence and are interested in bringing Geertruida to London. The Dutch international’s ability to feature as a full-back, a centre-back and a defensive midfielder is why Arteta is keen on having him in his squad. His arrival will give the Spanish manager more tactical options.

The Gunners are aware of the amount of interest in him and are looking to take the lead in his pursuit by making a formal bid in the near future. Meanwhile, Liverpool also have significant interest in signing the 23-year-old and Arne Slot’s arrival has played a big part in it.

The Dutch manager played a key part in his development at Feyenoord and with him taking charge of the Reds, there is a high possibility of him reuniting with his former manager at Anfield. While they already have Trent Alexander-Arnold in their squad, Geertruida’s arrival will add depth and it will give Slot the option to deploy the English international in the centre of the park.
