Chelsea eyeing summer move for Marc Guiu

Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 18-year-old Spanish attacking sensation Marc Guiu from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has quoted Guillem Balague, Marc Guiu is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Barcelona attacking sensation is available for a meagre €6 million due to a release clause in his contract. Meanwhile, the Blaugrana will look to keep hold of the 18-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Who is Marc Guiu?

Marc Guiu is the latest highly-rated prospect to break into the first-team squad at FC Barcelona. The Spaniard is a native of Granollers and began his youth career at PB Sant Celoni before joining the Blaugrana in 2013. The youngster progressed through the ranks at the Catalan club in the decade that followed before making his first-team debut last summer.

The 18-year-old has turned out seven times thus far for Barcelona, chipping in with two goals. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe since graduating to the first-team squad.

Recent reports have linked the Spanish youth international with Sevilla, with other La Liga clubs also showing interest in him. The latest update has suggested that Chelsea and Bayern Munich are keen on signing the Barcelona attacking sensation, with his release clause of €6 million making him an attractive target.

Guiu, the latest wonderkid on Chelsea radar

Chelsea’s interest in Marc Guiu is understandable. The Blues have focused on creating a youth-driven project under the Todd Boehly-led regime, with several highly-rated prospects, including Angelo Gabriel, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Deivid Washington. In addition, prodigies like Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian will arrive at Stamford Bridge next year.

So, it is hardly surprising that Guiu has emerged as a target for Chelsea, even though the infamous hoarding of talent will continue with his arrival. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s interest in the Barcelona wonderkid also makes sense, considering they often ensure a smooth pathway to first-team football.

However, Barcelona will aim to keep hold of the 18-year-old Spanish attacking sensation beyond the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are keen on tying him to a new contract and doing away with his release clause of €6 million.
