Manchester United are closing on Reading youngster and Scotland youth international Camrom Mpofu as they continue to add to their academy squad.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Scottish youth international Camron Mpofu is being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. The Reading teenager has impressed at youth levels and could soon be added to the Red Devils’ academy squad.
Homegrown rules in the Premier League have kept top teams on the edge of having enough players from their home country in their squad. Many of these sides have often looked at their academy to fulfil certain quotas as such players will surely become expensive commodities in the future.
The big change in recent times is the introduction of PSR, which does not allow clubs free reign in the market and often tends to restrict them with their spending. Last January, Tottenham were the club with the heaviest spending in the market as none of the Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea, or Liverpool, made one single signing.
Hence, the idea here is to strengthen the youth squads with enough prodigious talents to develop them and potentially even sell them for a profit in the future. Such sales will ensure clubs are able to keep the entire fee as profits, with Manchester City being a big example of how to operate in those markets.
Hence, more clubs are trying to pluck talents from second-tier sides and different academies early to bring Tom here and develop their abilities to their specifications. Manchester United are no different, as they are making every effort to strengthen their academy ranks, which have previously produced stars like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, among others.
Manchester United to sign Camron Mpopfu?
Manchester United are ramping up their academy game and are now looking to bring Scottish youth international Camron Mpofu to their Carrington academy. The Reading teenager has been in impressive form of late, as many clubs have looked at him.
Manchester United appear to be the favourite, as they are signing a host of players to their academy ranks. They were heavily linked with James Overy and may have already signed him, as they now target the 15-year-old attacking prodigy from Reading.
