Tottenham have £40 million bid turned down for Ivan Toney

Tottenham have seen a £40 million offer rejected by Brentford for striker target Ivan Toney, with the Bees holding out for £65 million.

According to Football Transfers, Brentford have reportedly turned down a £40 million offer for Ivan Toney from Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou views the England international as the perfect replacement for former striker Harry Kane, with the Bees reportedly holding out for £65 million.

Tottenham’s Ivan Toney bid turned down

Ivan Toney recently admitted his desire to leave Brentford for a bigger club, as he wishes to play for one of the teams challenging at the top. He has been a brilliant servant for the Bees right through their journey from the Championship to helping them establish themselves as a mid-table Premier League side.

With a year left, Toney has the big opportunity to stake a place in one of the bigger sides of the Premier League, as he wants to leave the Bees. Tottenham are one of the clubs considered as favourites to land the striker, and were planning on making a £40 million bid

That bid might have gone in as per the report as Brentford have rejected the proposal worth £40 million from Tottenham. Brentford are reportedly holding out for £65 million, although the suggestion points at £55 million getting the deal done for Spurs.

Whether they are prepared to pay that much remains to be seen, although there are very few strikers in the market that would suit Tottenham’s style. Ange Postecoglou views the £65 million-rated striker target as the perfect replacement for Harry Kane, who left last summer for Bayern Munich.

Tottenham mindful of their spending

Daniel Levy is expected to back Postecoglou with sufficient funds, although they may need to make sales to boost their existing budget. Tottenham plans on signing at least 5 players in the current window to bring themselves to a level where the team can comfortably challenge for a Champions League spot, which will be their priority target.

They are also keen on Eberechi Eze, but his reported £60 million price tag may prove problematic. While they have the means to get the deal for the Crystal Palace man as well as Toney done, they will then need to make sales to bring in further players and achieve objectives in this window, as Postecoglou might be mindful of the spending.
