Manchester City set to step up talks with Phil Foden over a new deal

Manchester City are ready to accelerate contract talks with Phil Foden, which could see the 24-year-old land a bumper new deal.

According to Football Insider, Phil Foden is in line for a bumber new deal with Manchester City, who are ready to step up their efforts. The England international had a tremendous season and could yet finish the campaign with silverware for England as he vies to become one of the best-paid stars at the Etihad.

Manchester City to accelerate Phil Foden talks

Manchester City will pat themselves on the back of stellar work in developing a talent like Phil Foden. The attacker produced his best season to date in a City shirt, with 39 goal contributions last season and winning the Premier League Player of the Year gong.

He has become one of the main men under Pep Guardiola, and the manager has not managed to drop him for any reason whatsoever. Manchester City are ready to recognise the efforts of the forward and hand him a bumper new deal that reflects his status within the squad.

Manchester City had postponed talks until the summer back in March, which was understandable considering they were in the thick of a title race and retaining their European crown. However, they failed to achieve the latter. Foden had a tremendous season and masked some of the team’s deficiencies caused by key absentees at different stages of the campaign.

The club are now ready to offer him a big contract to prolong his stay and lock his future at the Etihad. Foden’s current deal expires only in 2027, and he’s reportedly on £200,000-a-week terms that were last signed in 2022. With the new incoming contract, the 24-year-old might become one of the best-paid stars in Manchester City, on par with Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Foden’s sensational season

While Manchester City could not retain their Champions League title, Foden was instrumental in their efforts to maintain the Premier League. The 24-year-old  scored 19 times in the league and provided a further 8 assists to be named the league’s top player. He did score some clutch goals to help his side win the fourth Premier League title in a row.

Foden now hopes to bring his club form into Germany, where he is a big part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad. The Three Lions are one of the favourites to lift the trophy, as their manager will certainly hope Foden brings his A-game here and produces more monumental moments.
