Aston Villa in transfer tussle to sign Saud Abdulhamid

Premier League high flyers Aston Villa have reportedly approached the representatives of 24-year-old Saudi right-back Saud Abdulhamid.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Saud Abdulhamid is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window. They have identified the 24-year-old Al-Hilal right-back as a target, with their officials contacting his representatives.

Who is Saud Abdulhamid?

Saud Abdulhamid has spent his formative years and professional career thus far in his homeland. A native of Jeddah, he graduated from the youth division at Al-Ittihad before establishing a foothold in the first-team squad a few years ago. However, the Saudi Arabian international has risen in prominence after joining Al-Hilal in January 2022.

The 24-year-old was instrumental in Al-Hilal enjoying an exceptional 2023/24 campaign, contributing to 13 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions. Abdulhamid found the back of the net four times while providing nine assists. Meanwhile, the player has turned out 28 times thus far for Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Saud Abdulhamid’s progress at Al-Hilal has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with the latest report revealing interest from Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa’s interest in Saud Abdulhamid is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Matty Cash. The Polish international is the only right-back in Unai Emery’s squad. So, it is hardly surprising that they want a new right-back.

Several candidates, including Denzel Dumfries, have thus emerged on Aston Villa’s radar. Abdulhamid is also a viable target, with the West Midlands club already contacting his representatives. However, the Villans face stiff competition from Nottingham Forest, with the Tricky Trees also submitting an enquiry for the 24-year-old Al-Hilal right-back.

Other right-backs, including Raoul Bellanova, also feature on Aston Villa’s radar. As for the move for Abdulhamid, it will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can beat the competition from Nottingham Forest for the 28-cap Saudi Arabia international.
