Conor Gallagher hoping for Chelsea extension

Chelsea star Conor Gallagher hopes to extend his stay at his childhood club amidst interest from rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report from Football Insider, Conor Gallagher wants to renew his deal at Chelsea despite all the uncertainty about his future. The English international does want to leave the London club despite interest in his services from rivals Tottenham.

Gallagher’s future was the talk of the town last summer as well. But, he ended up continuing at the club and played a very important role under Mauricio Pochettino. He was involved in 50 games last season and contributed towards 16 goals. The 24-year-old was their skipper for the majority of the season.

Gallagher’s uncertain future, Tottenham keen

Despite putting in incredible shifts last season, the English international’s future has once again become the talk of the town. His current deal with Chelsea runs out in the summer of 2025. The Blues were involved in talks to extend his stay but both parties could not strike a deal. Those talks have been on hold for a while.

The Blues need to raise funds to avoid breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations. Gallagher’s departure could be a huge boost as he is an academy graduate and money raised could be registered as pure profit.

With his contract running out and Chelsea struggling to balance their books, Tottenham were looking to make the most out of the situation. The North London club want more depth and quality in the midfield. With Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso likely to leave, Gallagher was seen as an ideal replacement.

Gallagher wants to continue at Chelsea

The Chelsea graduate could have been a great fit in Ange Postecoglou’s team. As a result, they remain keen on signing him but they have suffered a blow as the player wants to continue at his childhood club.

The contract renewal talks have been on hold for some time now but the player is still hopeful of extending his stay. He has never hidden his desire to continue at the London club and seeks a contract renewal.

While there is a risk of losing out on Gallagher for free if he doesn’t pen a new deal, the Blues don’t intend on forcing him out against his will. Reports suggest contract renewal talks could re-start soon.
