Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle it out with rivals Arsenal for the signature Everton midfield sensation Amadou Onana.
According to Ignazio Genuardi, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on having Amadou Onana in their squad ahead of next season. The North London clubs are looking to bolster their midfield and they feel the Everton mainstay could be a great acquisition for the short as well as the long run.
Everton acquired the services of Onana in the summer of 2022 on the back of an impressive season at LOSC Lille. The 22-year-old didn’t take long to adjust to life in the English top flight and has been one of the most consistent players for the Merseyside club.
In the recently concluded season, he was involved in 37 matches and even contributed towards four goals. He has also managed to establish himself in the Belgian national team and is gearing up for the Euros that will get underway on 14th June.
While his contract with the Toffees runs until the summer of 2027, multiple top clubs are ready to prise him away. He is an integral part of Everton’s first-team setup but they could still sanction his departure if they get the right price.
They are not in the best of financial situations and his departure will help their cause and will also allow them to reinvest in their squad. The report suggests a fee of around €60 million could be enough to convince Everton to part ways with the Belgian sensation.
North London rivals want to sign Amadou Onana
Arsenal and Tottenham are both keen on acquiring his services. The Gunners are looking to further bolster their midfield ahead of next season. Despite making significant investments last summer, they still ended up second-best in the race for the Premier League title.
In order to go the distance, Arteta wants more quality in his midfield and the club are looking to bring Onana to the club. The Everton midfielder could form a great partnership alongside Declan Rice in the midfield. The Gunners seem to be quite determined to sign him but they will have competition from rivals Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou had an impressive start to life at Tottenham as he has secured Europa League football and in order to take the next step, he now wants more quality and depth in his squad.
With Pierre-Emile Højbjerg likely to leave, Onana could come in as a great replacement. His ability to feature in multiple roles could end up being a huge boost for the Spurs manager.
