Tottenham ready to pay £5 million-plus to terminate Tanguy Ndombele contract

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to cut their losses on midfielder Tanguy Ndombele by releasing him from his contract.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to terminate the contract of Tanguy Ndombele, and they will offer him around £5 million as compensation.

The French midfielder arrived at the North London club for a fee of around £63 million, and he was expected to develop into a world-class player. He was highly rated in his homeland at the time but has failed to make his mark at Tottenham so far.

Ndombele has embarked on multiple loan spells away from the North London club as well, and they were quite underwhelming. The midfielder is clearly going through a rough patch, and a fresh start would be ideal for him.

Tottenham are unlikely to be able to provide him with the opportunities he needs. So, letting him leave would be ideal. It remains to be seen where he ends up next season. On a free transfer, he could prove to be a low-risk signing, and there is unlikely to be shortage of interest.

The technically-gifted French midfielder has the qualities to develop into a top-class player. But he needs to work on his mentality and fitness. Meanwhile, the transfer represents a major loss for the Premier League club, who paid £63 million for the Frenchman and will be letting him leave for free.

Tottenham need to bring in a quality midfielder

Ndombele is a high earner, and Tottenham will want to get his wages of their books. It makes sense for them to cut their losses on him and move on. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can bring in a quality replacement. They need to sign a quality central midfielder this summer.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with an exit as well, and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can bring in someone who will add defensive cover and control to the midfield. The North London outfit missed out on Champions League qualification last season, and they will be eager to finish in the top four and push for trophies next term.

Signing the right players will help them do well next season. Meanwhile, Ndombele will hope that he can find a club willing to give him the chances he needs. He also needs a manager who will trust in him and give him opportunities.
