Kai Havertz will remain first-choice striker even if Arsenal sign Benjamin Sesko

Kai Havertz will reportedly remain the first-choice striker for Arsenal even if the Gunners sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Arsenal. However, the Slovenian international will have to earn his stripes at the Emirates, with Kai Havertz likely to continue as the first-choice striker. Meanwhile, the RB Leipzig striker is also a target for Chelsea and Manchester United.

Benjamin Sesko and his rise in recent years

Benjamin Sesko has established himself as one of the best young strikers in the world since joining the Red Bull “family”. The 21-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with Red Bull Salzburg before moving across the Red Bull group when RB Leipzig signed him last summer.

The youngster had to bide his time before becoming a regular for RB Leipzig. However, the Slovenian international enjoyed an exceptional second half of the 2023/24 season to end the campaign with a superb tally of 18 goals and two assists in just 2,057 minutes of game time across 42 appearances in all competitions. Sesko’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

A man in demand

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly the two most serious suitors for Benjamin Sesko’s signature. While some reports have claimed that the Gunners have submitted a “big bid” to sign him, the Blues view him as a priority target. The latest update comes as a slight blow to the young striker’s prospects.

The report has claimed that Mikel Arteta will retain Kai Havertz as the first-choice striker even if Benjamin Sesko arrives from RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old must earn his stripes before becoming the first-choice striker, while toppling Havertz will be a tall order.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils need a striker this summer. However, they should invest in a more experienced centre-forward who can be Rasmus Hojlund’s deputy. Nevertheless, Sesko is a target for Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window.

However, joining Arsenal or Chelsea is likelier, and it will be interesting to see which part of London Sesko plies his trade in next season.
