Levi Colwill set for showdown talks with Enzo Maresca over Chelsea future

Levi Colwill will soon hold crunch talks with Enzo Maresca over his situation in the first-team squad at Chelsea amid his links with Liverpool.

According to a report by 90min, Levi Colwill is the subject of interest from Liverpool. However, Chelsea will look to keep hold of the 21-year-old defender beyond the summer transfer window. The youngster will hold showdown talks with newly-appointed manager Enzo Maresca over his future and situation in the first-team squad.

The rise of Levi Colwill

Levi Colwill is one of the best young prospects in his homeland. A native of Southampton, he began his youth career with City Central FC but spent almost all his formative years at Chelsea. However, the Englishman had to bide his time before establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.

Colwill’s loan stints with Huddersfield Town and Brighton & Hove Albion helped, and he was a regular for Chelsea in the 2023/24 season. The 21-year-old turned out 32 times across all competitions for the West London club, amassing nearly 2,500 minutes of game time while chipping in with one goal and one assist.

However, Colwill’s long-term future at Chelsea is not set in stone, with the situation capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are two of the prospective suitors for the English international heading into the summer transfer window.

Move across Premier League on the horizon?

Liverpool’s interest in Levi Colwill is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back after deciding to part ways with Joel Matip as a free agent. In addition, Joe Gomez faces an uncertain future at Anfield, while Virgil van Dijk is on the wrong side of 30.

So, it behoves Liverpool to invest in a centre-back in the summer transfer window. Colwill has thus emerged as a viable target, with the Merseyside club closely monitoring his situation. The 21-year-old will soon hold crunch talks with Enzo Maresca over his situation heading into the 2024/25 season.

Colwill does not want to become a rotation option and is eager to remain a regular for Chelsea next season. However, irrespective of the talks between the two parties, the Blues will do everything in their power to thwart Liverpool and other suitors.
